Imam Ibn e Wazir Yemeni’s critical point of view on theological studies

Abstract

The second and third century of Hijri period is called golden age of Ilmul Kalam (dialectics). The Scholars of Ilmul Kalam was born in these two centuries of Hijri period. They were divided into two parties; the first party always strongly supported the Ilmul Kalam (dialectics), they thought that, the research of Ilmul Kalam is very important for Muslim human life. However, another party never agreed to support the research of Ilmul Kalam (dialectics) and they thought that, the research of Ilmul Kalam is illegal and is passing the time without result. In the modern age, Imam Ibnul Wazir Al-Yemani is famous in the Muslim World as Scholar of Ilmul Kalam. Some researchers of the Arab World have been awarded the PhD degree after study on this Imam. Some of them think that, the Imam Ibnul Wazir Al Yameni was the supporter of Second party, which means he never supported the research of Ilmul Kalam. Yet, majority of the researchers think that, Imam Ibnul Wazir Al-Yemani was a supporter of the research of Ilmul Kalam, but he criticized those parts of Ilmul Kalam which were not mentioned clearly in the Quran and Sunnah. He said that some scholars of Ilmul Kalam always disputed about the debated parts of Ilmul Kalam and called one another Disbeliever (Kafir). He thought that, these debated parts should be left undisputed.
