IMPACT DES FLUCTUATIONS CLIMATIQUES SUR LA QUANTITE ET LA QUALITE DES EAUX SOUTERRAINES D’UNE REGION SEMI-ARIDE : CAS DE LA PLAINE DE GHRISS (NORD-OUEST ALGERIEN)

Journal Title: Larhyss Journal - Year 2012, Vol 11, Issue 11

Abstract

Economic development of Mascara city (North West Algeria), based primarily on agriculture, requires mobilization increasingly important water resources, with an increasing use of irrigation. To estimate the impact on the hydrodynamic equilibrium of the water, the present study was conducted in the perimeter plain of Ghriss, one of the largest irrigated areas of Mascara where irrigation is from groundwater. After a description of climate, hydrological and hydrogeological, we analyze the evolution piezometric. We are witnessing a steady decline in all piezometers studied, with a maximum drawdown of 54.2 m in 11 years. This decrease is mainly due to the weakening of rainfall and the increasing number of water points and overexploitation of groundwater. In light of the results of physico-chemical analyzes, it appears that the water collected from these boreholes are grouped in two facies dominant chemical "calcic bicarbonate and magnesian " and " chlorinated and sulfated calcic and magnesian bicarbonate." They are enough mineralized in the limit of potability. Mapping of nitrate, chloride and electrical conductivity measured at boreholes, reveals the presence of pollution by nitrate and chloride in the northwest of the plain, the area is characterized by the interference of industrial and municipal discharges.
