Impact of Technical and Vocational Education on the Nigerian Economy

Abstract
This study was a simple survey designed to assess the impact of technical and vocational education on the Nigerian economy. To achieve the purpose of this study, three research questions and three hypotheses were formulated to guide the study. Literatures related to the study were extensively reviewed. Random sampling technique was used in selecting 200 respondents to form the sample size of the study from the entire residents of Uyo Local Government Area who consist the population of the study. The instrument used for the collection of data was researcher’s structured questionnaire. The reliability coefficient of the instrument yielded 0.85 using spearman brown formula. The instrument was validated by the seminar supervisor. The data collected was analysed using chi-square statistic. The result showed that proper implementation of technical and vocational education has a significant influence and poverty reduction status. Based on the findings of this study, it was recommended that technical and vocational education should be made compulsory especially at the secondary school level so as to instill in the youths the industrious spirit or skills.
