IMPACT OF TEENAGE PREGNANCY ON MATERNAL AND NEONATAL OUTCOMES IN BAGHDAD CITY

Abstract
Background: Adolescent pregnancy is common health problem still found in both developed and developing countries. Adolescent mother face substantially higher maternal and perinatal morbidity and mortality than adult women. There is a growing awareness that early child bearing has multiple consequences in term of maternal health, child health and over all well being of society. Objective: The object of the study is to assess the adverse maternal and neonatal outcomes in teenage pregnant mother and adult mothers. Subject and methods: This study was case control, hospital base study conducted at six maternal hospitals in Baghdad city. This study was conducted from the period of 1st November 2016 to the 15th February 2017. Six hundred fifty-four pregnant women who give birth at six hospitals were chosen according to specific formula and invited to complete a face to face questionnaire, the 1st group: case group (218 women between the age of 12-19 years) and the 2nd group control group(436 women between 20-35 years). Participants were asked for demographic information and pregnancy history (age, parity, antenatal care (ANC), last menstrual period (LMP), chronic medical disease). Pregnant outcomes and neonatal outcomes was taken from mother and child sheets.
