Impact of Transformational Leadership on Organizational Commitment, Job Satisfaction and Patient Safety Culture

Abstract
Patient safety is considered as the most important matter in the medical field as well as the quality of services safety which is also acknowledged as a priority by all health services providers Hospital must be able to create a safety culture in its duty of providing health services, and such culture could be developed by the support of transformational leadership, organizational commitment and job satisfaction. In the previous studies, the patient safety culture was shaped through the transformational leadership, organizational commitment and job satisfaction, use multiple regression analysis, only assessed whether the variables are the predictor of the patient safety culture formation and found that those above was a significant predictor for patient safety culture. In this study, the researchers analyses the impact of transformational leadership on organizational commitment, job satisfaction, and patient safety culture which were not previously studied. The objective of the study; first, to find out to what extent the impact of transformational leadership on organizational commitment; second, to find out to what extent the impact of transformational leadership on job satisfaction; and third, to find out to what extent the impact of organizational commitment and job satisfaction on patient safety culture. The study used a questionnaire which was distributed to 105 respondents who are all the nursing staff providing direct contact and services to the patients in a private hospital in Tangerang, Indonesia. The method of the data analysis of this study is the Structure Equation Model (SEM). The result of the study found that the transformational leadership had an impact towards the increase in organizational commitment and jobs satisfaction and the study found that there was an impact of organizational commitment and job satisfaction on patient safety culture. So, it is concluded that the formation of patient safety culture is impacted by both organizational commitment and job satisfaction. While the organizational commitment and job satisfaction are impacts by the transformational leadership.
