IMPROVING OPERATIONAL RELIABILITY OF ICE REINFORCEMENTS OF VESSELS HULLS

Abstract
Problems of modernization of the Russian merchant fleet are mainly solved by overseas-built vessels. Most of them are not accommodated for operation in ice. As such operations in Russian conditions inevitably lead to considerable damages to ship hulls. One way to improve ice-operation reliability of these vessels is to use exposed welded segments. However some issues of its application remain unsettled and adequate solutions are needed. In particular it is a problem of efficiency which is studied in this article.
