IMU-Mouse: design and implementation of a pointing device for people with disabilities
Journal Title: TecnoLógicas - Year 2018, Vol 21, Issue 41
Abstract
The correct application of ICTs (information and communications technologies) to the education of people with physical disabilities requires studies aimed to adapt interfaces. Controlling the design and implementation of input devices would contribute to develop interfaces tailored to the requirements of such context. The purpose of this work is to present the development and validation of the IMU-Mouse pointer device whose design and implementation is controlled—for researching interfaces that make the most of the interaction capabilities of the devices in adaptation processes. The purpose of the device is to address the needs created by physical disability in upper limps; hence it operates with head movements. Both actions of the IMU-Mouse, click and move, are performed by processing the data generated by an accelerometer and a gyroscope. The main interaction features of theIMU-Mouse were assessed by group of 13 people by means of a survey based on Annex C of ISO 9241-9 standard. The results lead to conclude that the device enables an effective interaction with the computer, as well as the identification of spaces for the application of hardware and software add-ons to support interaction.

Design, construction and characterization of pneumatic system for measurement of roughness
This article aims to present the results obtained from the design, construction and characterization of a pneumatic flapper-nozzle amplifier, employed in the measurement of average surface roughness. In the construction...
Feature extraction based on time-singularity multifractal spectrum distribution in intracardiac atrial fibrillation signals
Non-linear analysis of electrograms (EGM) has been proposed as a tool to detect critical conduction sites (e.g., rotors vortex, multiple wavefronts) in atrial fibrillation (AF). Likewise, studies have...
Automatic classification of vowels in Colombian sign language
Sign language recognition is a highly-complex problem due to the amount of static and dynamic gestures needed to represent such language, especially when it changes from country to country. This article focuses on static...
Secondary voltage regulation based on average voltage control
Thispaper compares a conventional Secondary Voltage Regulation (SVR) scheme based on pilot nodes witha proposed SVR thattakes into account average voltages of control zones. Voltage control significance for the...
Development of XLPE compounds with low-toxicity flame retardant for cable insulation
Nine formulations of a flame retardant masterbatch with low environmental impact were developed, and the influence of their incorporation into a linear low-density polyethylene, grafted with a vinyltrimethoxysilane cross...
