IN HALLOW MEMORY OF YURIY YAROSLAVOVYCH SABAN (1961–2016)

Abstract
It happened that I knew Yuriy Saban since his childhood. Yuriy, during his childhood, spent weekends with his parents on Yaniv lake. Our family also spent time there. His father, Jaroslav Saban, later was known as a famous Ukrainian scientist in the field of forestry and a professor of Lviv National Forestry University. Mother Suzanne Saban, had the education of graphic artist. She worked at Lviv Polytechnic. Our following meetings with Yuri Saban were held at the Faculty of Architecture of Lviv Polytechnic National University, he graduated from this University in 1983, specialty “Architecture”. Under the supervision of the Associated Professor Andriy Rudnytskyy he successfully completed postgraduate study and defended his thesis on “Urban planning-ecological principles of architecturalplanning structure formation of medium-sized cities (on the basis of Western region)”. Defence was held in 1991 in Kiev National University of Construction and Architecture. Yuri Saban worked at Lviv National Agrarian University from 1988 to 1991, and from 1991 to 2016 he occupied different positions from assistant to associated professor at the departments of Urban planning and Architectural design of Lviv Polytechnic Yuri Saban reserached environmental issues in urban planning in terms of natural resources rational use in the territorial development of settlements in the economic development of the natural landscape. He conducted the following lectures “Fundamentals of environmental management and sustainable land use” and “Landscape and spatial organization of cities”, organized classes on the course and diploma architectural design. We should mention the diploma project “Network of cycling movement in Lviv” in 2010, which proposed the concept of cycling organization in the city. Main results were subsequently published in scientific article. This topic was close to Yuriy, as he liked to travel by bicycle in Lviv and its surroundings, he visited often forests in Bryukhovychi and Vynnyky. On summer days, sometimes he chose longer route to Yanivlake, probably remembering his childhood. He was interested in landscape photography and architecture, together we organized photo tours in the city streets and parks, looking for reasons both from teaching and the artistic point of view. Taking into account communication at the Department with colleagues, Yuriy Saban is remembered as erudite man, a patriot of Ukraine, benevolent friend. Unfortunately, in recent years his health deteriorated, however, none of us thought he would have died so quickly and unexpectedly...
