Abstract
Nowadays, almost at every step we are attacked with news about discoveries, inventions aiming to change the everyday life. Some of them make life more comfortable, others make the everyday duties easier or provide entertainment. This article describes histories of inventions which are frequently used nowadays: contact lenses, self-cleaning surfaces and OLED displays. They are much older than we expect, as well as much more interesting.
