In vitro antidiabetic activity ofpsidium guajava leaves extracts
Journal Title: Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Disease - Year 2012, Vol 2, Issue 0
Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the glucose uptake of (antidiabetic activity) crude n-hexane, ethanol, ethanol and aqueous leaf extracts of P.guajava. Methods: P.guajava leafextracts were subjected to inhibitory effect of glucose utilization using specific standard in vitro procedure. Results: results in four different leaf extracts revealed that, the methanol extract at a concentration of 50g plant extract/l was found to be more potent than other extracts with the lowest mean glucose concentration of 201+1.69 mg/dl at the end of 27 hrs. Conclusions: The present findings suggest that, the methanolic extract showed a significant inhibitory effect on glucose diffusion in vitro thus validating the traditional claim of the plant.
Evaluation of lethal effect of microwave exposure on protoscolices of hydatid cyst in vitro
Objective: To investigate the lethal effect of microwave radiation on protoscolices of hydatid cyst. Methods: The protoscolices were divided in two separate groups. The first group received continuous irradiation while t...
Peptide-assembled graphene oxide as fluorescent turn-on sensor for ultrasensitive Lipopolysaccharide (Endotoxin) detection
Introduction: Lipopolysaccharide (LPS), or endotoxin, a major component in the outer cell membrane of Gram-negative bacteria is a very powerful and toxic inflammatory stimulator, resulting in sepsis or septic shock, a si...
Modulation of adipogenesis and glucose uptake by Curcuma longa extract in 3T3L1 and L6 cell lines - An in vitro study
Objective: To evaluate the effects of ethyl acetate extract of Curcuma longa against modulation of glucose uptake and adipogenesis in cell line models. Methods: We used 3T3L1 and L6 cells to investigate cytotoxicity, glu...
Evaluation of GeneXpert MTB/RIF and line probe assay for rapid diagnosis of Mycobacterium tuberculosis in Sudanese pulmonary TB patients
Objective: To study the sensitivity and specificity of line probe assay (LPA) and GeneXpert compared with drug susceptibility test (DST). Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted for 126 TB patients in Sudan. Mycob...
