In vitro Propagation of Rhododendron griffithianum Wt.: An Endangered Rhododendron Species of Sikkim Himalaya
Journal Title: Journal of Applied Biology & Biotechnology - Year 2016, Vol 4, Issue 2
Abstract
A reproducible protocol for in vitro propagation of R. griffithianum has been established. Multiple shoot proliferation from shoot-tip explants was occurred in the presence of 2-isopentenyl adenine (2-iP) alone or in combination with indole 3-butyric acid (IBA) in Anderson's medium. The best treatment for shoot regeneration was Anderson's medium supplemented with 5 µM 2-iP and 1.0 µM IBA, which promoted shoot proliferation in more than 75% culture with an average of 11.00 shoots per explants after twelve weeks. These shoots were successfully rooted on Anderson's liquid medium supplemented with 1.5 µM IBA. The rooted plantlets were hardened in greenhouse with 84% survival rate.
Assessment of biomarkers in acrylamide-induced neurotoxicity and brain histopathology in rat
The effects of acrylamide (ACR), a synthetic neurotoxic chemical compound on non-enzymatic and enzymatic stress markers and brain histopathology, were studied in Wistar rats. ACR (50 mg/300 ml) was ingested through drink...
Down-regulation of Id1 and Id3 genes affects growth and survival of Human Umbilical Vein Endothelial Cells (HUVECs)
Inhibitors of DNA (Id) proteins have been implicated in cell growth, cell cycle control, apoptosis and angiogenesis. Studies reveal that Id1 and Id3 may be required for angiogenesis in adult tissues. This work aimed at i...
Rapid and sensitive method for detection of Staphylococcus aureus enterotoxin genes in milk sample
Staphylococcus aureus is a common microflora present on skin and mucous membrane of cattle. Despite its amiable nature, S. aureus can turn shrewd and get to be distinctly pathogenic. Staphylococcus present in the milk ma...
Biosynthesis, characterization, and antibacterial activity of silver nanoparticles from Aspergillus awamori
Microbial nanoparticles (NPs) have become the subject of immense research interest in the recent past due to their wide range of applications as effective antimicrobial agents, drug delivery systems, gene delivery, diagn...
Fermentative Production of Microbial Enzymes and their Applications: Present status and future prospects
Microbial enzymes are widely used in different industries mainly because of vast availability of sources. Microbial enzymes could be genetically modified and are considered as economical in comparison to plant and animal...
