Incidence and clinico- anatomical relevance of pneumosinus dilatans frontalis using computed tomography and in south Indian skulls
Journal Title: Indian Journal of Clinical Anatomy and Physiology - Year 2018, Vol 5, Issue 2
Abstract
Introduction Pneumosinus dilatans PD is a rare craniofacial malformation characterized by unusual hyperaeration of any one of the paranasal sinuses The etiology and pathogenesis of this condition remain unclear Here we are presenting a case study on the incidence of Pneumosinus Dilatans Frontalis PDF using computed tomography and in south Indian skullsMaterials and Methods The present study was carried out in 92 dried adult human skull of unknown sex obtained from Department of Anatomy and 120 patients underwent paranasal sinus Computed tomography CT for various reasons at Bhasaweshwara Medical college and hospital Chitradurga Karnataka The incidence of unilateral and bilateral PDF was observed and photographedResults Out of 90 dried skulls the incidence of unilateral PDF was found in only one case 109 In the present study the incidence of bilateral PDF was not found in dried skulls A total of 120 240 slices CT scans of the nose and paranasal sinuses were reviewed We observed 3 cases 25 of bilateral PDF among them 2 cases were seen in males and one case in femaleConclusions PD is rare craniofacial deformity affects all paranasal sinus but most commonly affects the frontal sinus Hence a detailed anatomical and morphometric knowledge of the region is necessary to perform the successful surgeries and outcome in the regionKeywords Frontal sinus paranasal sinus Pneumosinus dilatans Pneumosinus dilatans frontalis

Morphometric study of nutrient foramina of humerus in North Indian population
Introduction: Knowledge of location and relevant anatomy of nutrient foramina is important in surgical procedures to preserve circulation. Non- union of fracture shaft of humerus one common complication and a great chall...
Comparative study of sympathetic function tests in premenopausal and postmenopausal Women
Introduction: Menopause is permanent cessation of menstruation. After menopause primordial follicles become atretic, hence ovaries fail to produce estrogen. The presence of estrogen receptors in the heart, vascular smoot...
Effect of Bhastrika Pranayama on respiratory muscle function
Introduction: Respiratory muscles improve their function in response to training. Yogic exercises have the ability to enhance respiratory efficiency. Respiratory training techniques have consistently demonstrated positiv...
Study of Arterial Pattern & Its Correlation with the Shape of Human Placenta by Corrosion Cast Method
Introduction: Placenta is an organ that connects the developing fetus to uterine wall to allow nutrient uptake, waste elimination and gaseous exchange via the mother’s blood supply. Placenta is the most accurate record o...
A comparative study of auditory & visual reaction time in table tennis players and age matched healthy controls
Objectives: Evaluation of the effect of playing Table Tennis(TT) on auditory reaction time (ART) & visual reaction time (VRT) and comparison with age matched healthy control group who are not involved in regular sports...
