Independent Safety Assessment Strategy for Urban Rail Transit Vehicles
Journal Title: Urban Mass Transit - Year 2024, Vol 27, Issue 3
Abstract
[Objective] China′s independent safety assessment (ISA) on urban rail transit vehicles is still in its initial development stage in that the relatively complete theories and standardization remain to be formed, and there are still deficiencies in specialization, systematization and other aspects. Therefore, it is necessary to study the strategy of ISA on urban rail transit vehicles. [Method] In view of the FAO (fully automatic operating system) urban rail transit projects opened for operation and under construction in China, and with focus on hidden hazard identifying and risk control in vehicle system, ISA is conducted on the safety assessment activities and the key points of the safety certification system at stages of vehicle design, vehicle manufacturing, and test verification. Focusing on the special risks of vehicles in the FAO projects, ISA mainly includes safety document evaluation, safety assessment on special risk, and safety audit, and runs through the entire vehicle construction period. [Result & Conclusion] Some of the FAO urban rail transit projects in China that complete the vehicle ISA show that the risk control related to the vehicle system is acceptable. Theoretical and practical experience in evaluation strategies, methods, and reports is accumulated. However, deficiencies still exist in specialization and systematization. It is necessary to improve the vehicle ISA system and form corresponding ISA standards for China.

Fire Smoke Control and Personnel Safety Evacuation under Dual-train Tracking Mode in Urban Rail Transit Ultra-long Tunnel
Objective In urban rail transit, train departure intervals are generally short, leading to situations where two trains travel in the same direction within ultra-long tunnels. In the event of a fire, this scenario can res...
Mechanical Performance Analysis and Profile Optimization of Pre-bent Steel-concrete Composite Straddle Monorail Track Beams
[Objective] Most conventional straddle monorail track beams utilize a profile form with 850 mm width. In response to the urban rail transit construction demands of the third and fourth-tier cities in China, relevant ente...
Mechanical Response Characteristics of Shallow-buried Concealed Rectangular Large-section Tunnel in Soft Soil Stratum
Objective The study aims to explore the technical methods for safe and effective construction of shallow-buried concealed rectangular large-section tunnels in urban soft soil stratum, so as to achieve safety control of t...
Impact Analysis of Interface Thermal Conductivity on Pantograph-Catenary Contact Temperature Rise
[Objective] The interface temperature rise caused by PC (pantograph-catenary) contact in electric trains can accelerate the wear of pantograph strips, thereby increasing the maintenance costs of rail transit systems. T...
Propagation Law of Blast-induced Vibrations during Metro Tunnel Under-passing Existing Old Buildings
Objective There is limited research both in China and abroad on the blasting construction of metro tunnels under-crossing existing old buildings. Projects utilizing blasting excavation may pose safety concerns for nearby...
