INDUCTION MACHINE PERFORMANCE EVALUATION UNDER PHASE VOLTAGE UNBALANCE

Abstract
A balanced three phase system sometimes become unbalanced due to faults (unsymmetrical) causing the network not to operate or perform maximally and optimally as in a healthy balanced system. Sometimes or frequently, unbalanced conditions might occur, which normally results to unpleasant consequences, capable of reducing the expectant life of the system connected to it. The performance of induction machines under balance and unbalanced conditions is presented in this paper. Different models of induction machines were developed representing the machine under balanced and unbalanced conditions. With the help of MATLAB/SIMULINK software, the developed models were simulated and the simulated results were presented and compared. The results show that there exists appreciable difference that is worth noting. The machine efficiency decreases with the increase of the voltage unbalance factor, even if the positive sequence component of the supplied voltage is constant. It is very advantageous to protect the power system components and network in general from the effect of unbalance voltage.
