Influence of cooling rate on the structure and mechanical properties of G17CrMoV5 – 10 cast steel
Journal Title: Archiwum Odlewnictwa - Year 2009, Vol 9, Issue 3
Abstract
The paper presents results of research on the influence of cooling rate on the structure and properties of G17CrMoV5 – 10 (L17HMF) cast steel. The material for research was a section taken out from an outer cylinder of a steam turbine body after about 250 000 hours of operation at the temperature of 535°C and pressure 9 MPa. The investigated cast steel was subjected to heat treatment which consisted in cooling at the rates corresponding to the processes, such as: bainitic hardening, normalizing and full annealing. Tempering after the process of cooling from austenitizing temperature was carried out at the temperatures of: 700, 720 and 740°C. Performed research has proved that structures obtained after bainitic hardening and normalizing are characterized by a large strength margin which allows to apply high temperatures of tempering. It has been shown that the cast steel of bainitic structure, with similar mechanical properties as the cast steel of bainitic – ferritic structure, is characterized by almost twice as high impact energy. Full annealing and tempering of the examined cast steel ensures only the required impact strength, with mechanical properties comparable to those after service.

Friction wear cast iron casting surface hardened by concentrated source of heat
In this study surface fusion by the GTAW (in argon atmosphere) surfacing process on plate of cast iron with electric arc advance speeds from 200 to 800 mm/min and current range I=300A were performed. The geometry, micros...
Selected characteristic of silumins with additives of Ni, Cu, Cr, Mo, W and V
The study, presents an investigation results of new grades of silumins containing of: 7,0÷17,0% Si, 4,0% Ni, 4,0% Cu and 0,5% Cr, Mo, W each as well as V. The influence tests were carried out of - antimony addition, stro...
The modification process of AlSi21CuNi silumin and its effect on change of mechanical properties of the alloy
Due to difficulties present during machining operations and with segregation of crystals of primary silicon, hypereutectic silumins can be used after modification only. It is why elaboration of effective modification met...
Morphology of graphite precipitates in austenitic ductile iron
The final mechanical properties of cast iron depend on the nature and properties of the matrix and on the morphology of graphite precipitates. The article presents the results of studies of the structure of austenitic du...
The assessment of hot cracking susceptibility of ferritic-austenitic cast iron
An inspiration to the research work has arisen from the problems related to cracking of massive castings made of ferritic-austenitic cast steel. The shape and the character of crack trajectories indicate that they are ho...
