INFLUENCE OF ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS ON GROUNDWATERS WITHIN THE ODRA VALLEY NEARBY PROCHOWICE

Abstract
The study area is located in the south-western part of Poland, in the Odra River valley nearby Prochowice, between rivers called Cicha Woda and Kaczawa, both of which are the left tributaries of the Odra River. The investigations for evaluation the impact of environmental conditions on the first ground water aquifer being in hydraulic contact with surface waters are presented. For this purpose a monitoring system which includes an automatic hydro-meteorological station and continuous measurements of groundwater table fluctuation has been built. Groundwater flow system was determined and recognizing of physico-chemical composition was confronted with the quality of surface water and precipitation. The major source of pollution is an intensive agriculture activity that causes a degradation of groundwater to the lowest class of quality due to nitrates, phosphates and potassium contents.
