Influence of Overweight and Obesity on Reproductive Health and Carrying of a Pregnancy

Abstract

The lecture considers the influence of obesity in women of reproductive age on somatic and reproductive problems that results in the decline of fertility. Women with obesity in comparison to the women with normal body weight have an increase in both frequency of spontaneous pregnancies and efficiency of treatment for sterility using different methods (stimulation of ovulation and other). After the occurrence of pregnancy in women with obesity, there is an increase in the risks of congenital abnormalities, macrosomia, stillbirth, gestational hypertension, gestational diabetes, premature birth and a number of other complications. Weight loss has a positive effect on menstrual function, increases the probability of conception and birth of a healthy child, reduces the risk of adverse pregnancy outcomes.
