INFLUENCE OF ULIPRISTAL ACETATE THERAPY ON UTERINE FIBROID-RELATED SYMPTOMS AND ON UTERINE AND FIBROID VOLUME AND VASCULARITY INDICES ASSESSED BY ULTRASOUND
Journal Title: INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF PURE MEDICAL RESEARCH - Year 2017, Vol 2, Issue 11
Abstract
AIM: To investigate the modication on quality of life and on uterine and broids volume and vascularization after 3 months treatment with Ulipristal acetate (UPA). METHODS: 42 premenopausal women were evaluated clinically for the symptoms complained and underwent ultrasound examination before and after 3 months therapy with UPA. Uterine volume and uterine arteries pulsatility index (PI) and resistance index (RI) were assessed for each patient. Considering that some patients had more than one broid, vascularization (supplying vessel PI and RI), localization and size of a total of 73 broids were also recorded. RESULTS: After 3 months of UPA patients had a signicant improvement of symptoms (p<0,05). There was a statistically signicant reduction in both uterine (p=0,03) and broid (p= 0,01) volume with a decrease of all broids vascular indices (p<0,05). CONCLUSION: UPA therapy results to be effective in improving broid-related symptoms and in reducing broid volume and vascularization.
