INSIGHTS ON ROMANIAN RURAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP: FROM TECHNOCRAT’S KNOWLEDGE TO PRACTITIONER’S EXPERIENCE

Journal Title: MANAGERIAL CHALLENGES OF THE CONTEMPORARY SOCIETY - Year 2017, Vol 1, Issue 10

Abstract

The approach of rural entrepreneurship in the context of the new Common Agricultural Policy and the new National Rural Development Plan is a concern of many theorists and practitioners. The present study aims to illustrate some of the characteristics of Romanian rural entrepreneurship. First, we have tried to clarify the difference between the concepts of entrepreneurship and rural entrepreneurship. Then we have analyzed the data obtained from two groups of respondents: specialists and practitioners (entrepreneurs) in Romanian rural entrepreneurship. The results show a number of difficulties Romanian rural entrepreneurship encounters due to the lack of managerial knowledge and skills related to the creation and business development. In addition, although the Romanian rural areas offer many opportunities for business development in various fields, there is a predominance of farming business. Conclusions summarize the characteristics of Romanian rural entrepreneurship, from dual perspective, the fundamental and specific problems of the field, as well as a number of solutions consistent with the diversity of identified issues in a close connection with the highlighted opportunities.
