Integration of Information and Communication Technologies into the Education Process: Example of Computer-Based Story Completion Task

Abstract

This study investigates the effects of computer-based story completion task on writing and computer using skills within the perspective of integration of information technologies into the education process. The study, in which an experimental design was used, was conducted with total of 51 Primary Education 6th Grade students. In the study that was conducted with three different experimental groups, the first group was given a computer-based story completion task supported with video, the second a text-based story completion task, and the third one a text-based story completion task supported with illustrations, and the groups were compared in terms of the writing skill. The study also investigated the contributions of computer-based story completion task, which requires use of information technologies, to computer using skills. According to the findings of the study, the computer-based story completion task, which was performed with process evaluation approach, positively affected the writing tasks and computer using skills, and has been established to be the most successful method. It was observed that students showed interest in the application, and that a large portion of the students connected the system from out of the school to participate in the activities, even though it was not obligatory.
