Abstract

Barbara Trelińska INTELLECTUAL AMUSEMENT IN EPIGRAPHY Epigraphic inscriptions provide information using text, as well as by the form of the text. In some inscriptions date of the text is encoded. An indication how to read the covert date is the size of the letters or the color of the letters. In the inscriptions sometimes (in a particular way) are marked the names of the people involved with the inscription. The method for forming the inscription is the shortening the text. Shortening the text is done by linking some letters or by reducing the size of the some letters. After reducing the size of the letters, smaller letters were inscribed in outline larger letters. Creating an interesting form for the inscription was a difficult task. Not every stone-cutter was able to create a interesting inscriptions.
