Intelligent Database System-Ontology for a Better Database System

Abstract

With monumental stress on the huge databases of ever increasing data available not only with the standalone systems but with the networks and internet all loaded with Everest size mountains of huge terabytes of information, there has been a revolutionary change on how data is now being accessed ,we are currently expecting much more mature and intelligent databases which would provide us with the relief of the painful slow speed of data identification and updation. With the advent of multimedia databases, industrial databases, financial databases and mobile databases the situation becomes much worse simply because of the enormous file sizes of different formats. The ever exponential growth of storage devices, new file formats, huge corporate and government online data etc all put pressure on the already taxed computer resources, a need is thereby felt to design effective “Intelligent Databases” since the traditional DBMS uses complex queries which result in large overheads in processing and crucial execution time. The present database techniques used are in a continuous evolving paradigmatic stage. This paper focuses on why we need to diversify from the traditional databases towards a much more efficient intelligent database system (IDBS), the features of an ideal IDBS, the applications of IDBS and finally concludes with the current limitations being faced in this field which currently being in infancy stage is predictably poised for a spectacular growth in coming years.
