INTERACTION BETWEEN THE CREATION OF A WHITE LAYER AND ADHESIVE REACTION IN CASE OF FRICTION OF ALLOY IRON IN HIGH TEMPERATURE

Abstract

The work characterizes the phenomenon of the formation of the “white layer” on the surface of tools used for the hot forming process of steel. It describes the structural factors of iron alloy tools that favour plastically hot-processed steel being glued to them. The work points to examples of a co-existence of the white layer and the glued steel. The mechanism of white layer formation was assumed as a factor favouring the adhesive connection of the tool and the hot-formed steel. The interaction between the austenitic micro-areas was indicated as the main cause of the adhesive connection under the mentioned conditions.
