INTERNAL FRICTION USE IN MONITORING THE DEGRADATION PROCESSES IN A MATERIAL
Journal Title: Materials Engineering - Materialove inzinierstvo (MEMI) - Year 2011, Vol 18, Issue 4
Abstract
During the measurement of the fatigue life of material, the specimen undergoes large number of stress cycles. While the observed number of cycles before failure is considered to be the most important result (often the only one), more knowledge can be obtained. Measuring energy consumption of specimen during the cycling, the changes of microstructure of material (especially dislocation structure and crack initialization) can be traced. The evolution of dynamic modulus can be watched on the same equipment. These information becomes very important, especially in the research of gigacycle fatigue strength and fatigue limit below which the continued loading does not lead to structural failure. In this article some remarks on microstructural changes in materials, which can be monitored by nondestructive measurement of internal friction are presented.

Fatigue Crack Propagation Under Variable Amplitude Loading Analyses Based on Plastic Energy Approach
Plasticity effects at the crack tip had been recognized as “motor” of crack propagation, the growth of cracks is related to the existence of a crack tip plastic zone, whose formation and intensification is accompan...
UTILIZATION OF STEREOLOGY FOR QUANTITATIVE ANALYSIS OF PLASTIC DEFORMATION OF FORMING PIECES
Mechanical working leads to final properties of forming pieces, which are affected by conditions of production technology. Utilization of stereology leads to the detail analysis of three-dimensional plastic deformed mate...
THERMAL STABILITY OF Al-Cu-Fe QUASICRYSTALS PREPARED BY SHS METHOD
Quasicrystal-containing materials are usually prepared by rapid solidification of the melt (e.g. by melt spinning) or mechanical alloying. In this work, the method using exothermic reactions between compressed metallic p...

The article compares the properties of plasma and HVOF thermally sprayed coatings obtained by blending the NiCrBSi and Fe2O3 powders. The deposition was performed by means of the Plancer PN-120 and the Diamond Jet guns f...
PROTECTIVE LAYERS OF IRON AND NICKEL ALUMINIDES ON STEEL
Intermediary phases Ni-Al and Fe-Al are promising materials due to their superior properties such as hardness and good resistance against oxidation at high temperatures. Moreover, Fe-Al phases are resistant in sulphur -...
