Abstract
Ever since 2009, the General Assembly of the United Nations has proclaimed the year 2012 as being the International Year of Cooperatives. To sustain this project, the General Secretary of the United Nations has appreciated the role of cooperatives to be “a reminder for the international community of the fact that there is possible to pursue simultaneously the economic viability and social responsibility”.
