INTERNATIONAL HUMANITARIAN LAW AS THE MAIN INSTRUMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION IN INTERNATIONAL ARMED CONFLICTS

Abstract
In the article the questions concerning the protection of the environment in international armed conflicts under international humanitarian law are considered. For this purpose the author analyzed four main sources of international humanitarian law: customary law, treaty law, case law and soft law. It is pointed out that the gaps in humanitarian law might be filled by reference to other areas of international law including international environmental law and human rights law.
