Intrahepatic Cholestasis of Pregnancy - The Riddle Revisited Once Again

Journal Title: Indian Obstetrics & Gynaecology - Year 2016, Vol 6, Issue 2

Abstract

Intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy is a specific pregnancy disease whose diagnosis is clinical. Biochemical alterations are analyzed as well as its treatment. Many unanswered questions remain about the disease. The revival of the topic in the English literature in the last years has motivated the author to review the available data, especially in consideration to the experience that his country, Chile, accumulated years ago. The most concerning issue related to the disease which is unpredictable foetal death is discussed once again, stating that the actual risk of this complication has not been well determined, and that is probably similar to the risk in the general population.
