Investigating the mediating role of communication beliefs in the relationship between marital expectations and the quality of marital life in military families

Abstract

he purpose of this study was to investigate the mediating role of communication beliefs in the relationship between marital expectations and the quality of marital life in military families. The method of correlational research was path analysis. The research population was the military households of Tehran in 1401, from which 204 people were selected by purposive sampling. The tools of the present research were the Marital Expectations Questionnaire of Omdered et al. (2017), the Marital Quality Questionnaire of Busby, Karan, Larsen, and Christensen (2005) and Idelsen and Epstein's Irrational Beliefs in Marital Life (1981). The results of the data analysis show The direct effect of marital expectations (β=-0.41) and communication beliefs (β=-0.36) on quality of life was confirmed (P<0.05) and marital expectations on communication beliefs (β=1.05) directly (P<0.05). Also, the indirect effect of marital expectations (β=-0.38) on the quality of married life of military couples is significant at the level of 0.05. Therefore, the results of the research indicate the favorable fit of the path analysis model of the mediating role of beliefs. There is a relationship between marital expectations and the quality of marital life in military families.
