Investigation of a new indicator of autoimmune accumulation in the genesis of type I diabetes mellitus
Journal Title: Український терапевтичний журнал - Year 2019, Vol 0, Issue 2
Abstract
Objective — the search for the new marker of autoimmune accumulation in the genesis of type I diabetes mellitus (DM-1). Materials and methods. With the use of immune enzymatic assay, investigations have been performed of the levels of antibodies to еЕF1А1 protein in the blood of 45 in-hospital patients with DM-1, treated in Lviv Regional Endocrine dispensary form March to June of the year 2017. The investigated group consisted of 25 (55,6 %) women and 20 (44,4 %) men. Patients’ age ranged 17 to 67 years. The mean duration of the disease manifestation in the main group was (15.7 ± 0.4) years (the period of the treatment start after the DM diagnosis confirmation varied 1 to 15 years). The control group consisted of 35 age- and gender-matching subjects, without family DM history. Results and discussion. The comparison of the main clinical peculiarities of the somatic diseases in both groups reveled the significant (р < 0.05) prevalence of the DM complications in the main group: cardiovascular (35.6 %), ophthalmic (55.6 %) pathologies, neurological disorders (66.7 %). In 28 (62,2 %) DM-1 patients, the combined complications of several systems were observed, that depended on the severity of the disease course. Conclusions. The determined concentration of antibodies to the eEF1A1 protein in the blood of subjects from the comparison groups demonstrated a higher level of diagnostically significant antibodies (from 1 : 320 to 1 : 640) in 10 patients (22.2 %), which significantly (p < 0.05) exceeded data from control group. Further expansion of the group of patients with type 1 DM for research would promote better evaluation of the possibility of the introduction of antibodies to еЕF1A1 protein as a specifying marker for diagnosis of this autoimmune pathology.
