Investigation of Micro Structure and Wear Behavior of Particle B4C Particulate Reinforced Composites with AA 2014 Al Matrix

Abstract

In his study, the composite samples were produced by powder metallurgy method with varying volume fraction (1,2,4 and 8 %) of B4C particles reinforced AA 2014 powder metal alloy. The composite samples were produced with the matrix/reinforcement powder mixes prepared pressing under 700 MPa pressure after sintering process for 1 h at 560˚C. The density changes, porosity, hardness changes and wear properties of composite samples produced were investigated. It was the hardness of the composites increased with increasing particle volume fraction and measured the highest hardness value in %8 particle volume fraction as 90 HV. It was observed that increased with increasing volume fraction of reinforcement phase the wear resistance of composite samples.
