Journal Title: Gelişim ve Psikoloji Dergisi (GPD) - Year 2020, Vol 1, Issue 2
Abstract
Social and economic problems in seasonal agricultural work (SAW) are in interaction with individual problems. Problems associated with SAW may cause anxiety symptoms in individuals. In this study, it was aimed to examine the anxiety and related factors of those who had SAW among patients who were followed up with a diagnosis of generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) in the light of sociodemographic data. The research is a cross-sectional study. The population of the study is composed of males and females aged 18-59 years who were followed up with a diagnosis of GAD in the psychiatry outpatient clinic of Adiyaman Kahta State Hospital. Functioning levels of the patients were measured with the Global Assessment Scale (GAS) and their anxiety levels with the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI). The data of 44 patients, 22 females and 22 males, were analyzed in the study. It was observed that male and female cases were similar in terms of age, educational status, marital status, additional psychiatric and medical illnesses (p<0.05). Females were diagnosed with GAD at an earlier age (p=0.048). In correlation analysis, it was found that there is a significant negative correlation between GAS and STAI (r=-0.942; p<0.001); significant correlations were observed between the time spent in SAW in one year and GAS (r=-0.899; p<0.001) and STAI (r=0.967; p<0.001). This study shows that there are significant correlations between the time spent in SAW within a year and clinical scores. It is thought that our results will benefit applications in the field of public health.
