INVESTIGATIONS INTO INFLUENCE OF EXCHANGEABLE CATIONS CONCENTRATION AND EXTERNAL SURFACE AREA ON LIQUID LIMIT OF CLAYEY SOILS

Abstract
The liquid limit, the external surface area, the concentration of exchangeable cations and the cation exchange capacity of fourteen clayey soils were determined. The correlation of the liquid limit with external surface area and exchangeable cations concentration was the aim of this research. The results of this study point to signifi cant statistical relationship between these three properties. This relationship indicates that interparticle forces have a prominent role in determining liquid limit of clayey soils.
