Journal Title: Uluslararası Dil, Edebiyat ve Kültür Araştırmaları Dergisi - Year 2019, Vol 2, Issue 1
Abstract
In this study, Feridüddin Attar's Mantıku't-Tayr and Hermann Hesse's Siddhartha texts were examined in the context of mysticism and literature by bringing these texts together. "Close reading" technique was used to approach those texts as a model and these texts were reinterpreted according to the philosophical doctrines and approaches of Islamic and Buddhist mysticism. In the selection of these texts, it was significant that both works covered the mystical journey of an individual built around a real journey story and spoke in similar subjects with their readers. In this study, symbols and motifs on these texts explaining different mystical experiences to their readers were examined. In the conclusion part, the role of both symbols and writers in reflecting the mystical philosophy through the language is positioned by making a reading on the contextual relationship of these partnerships with the geographies in which Mantıku’t-Tayr and Siddhartha emerged. This study emerged from the interpretation and examination of mystical literature between cultures / religions aimed to provide a new contribution to the field by showing universal reception and personal production over the mysticism of Islam and Buddhism to researchers working in the field of comparative literature.
