Abstract
The article outlines the methodology of the historical study of the 19th century Ukrainian literature by Mykola Zerov and highlights innovative elements of his review of the literature. The topicality of his research methods and literary achievements at the beginning of the 20th century are pointed out. His periodization of literature as based on stylistic and genre characteristics is presented among his particularly efficient achievements.
