„Jestem zwykłym ludzkim automatem”. Figura człowieka-maszyny w tekstach polskich zespołów pierwszej połowy lat 80.
Journal Title: Kultura Popularna - Year 2016, Vol 2, Issue 48
Abstract
The figure of a man‑machine(a cyborg, an android)is a metaphor of social attitudes representedin art relatively frequently. In the paperthe problem of the presence of man‑machinein popular culture is analysed on the basis ofthe lyrics of Polish rock bands of the first halfof the Eighties. The man‑machineis present inthe songs performed by both mainstream culturegroups (Mech, Exodus, and Kapitan Nemo), andunderground bands (Dezerter, Rejestracja, WC,Bikini, DefektMuzgó, Republika, and Rezerwat).Such a figure is present in the lyrics as twosets of references. The first one is concentratedon the representation of an individual perceptionof reality: an android is aware of its fate andserves as an allegory of existential uncertaintyof a real human. Secondly, a certain social perspectiveis used, as the lyrics presenting the activitiesof the political power indicate. Peoplein power try to produce and shape the androidsin political and cultural meanings: a man becomesa machine as a result of the activities ofthe power. This perspective includes the massproduction processes in which an individual isa subject of multiplication, and a man‑machineis used for military or industrial reasons.
