Job Satisfaction Among Civil Engineers Working in Building Sector in Construction Firms of Nepal

Abstract
Employee job satisfaction is an important and critical success factor for any organization. This research study aimed to determine the level of job satisfaction among civil engineers working in the building sector in construction firms in Nepal. Specifically, the study investigated the influence of demographic factors and job related factors in job satisfaction.Data for the study was collected primarily through structured questionnaire. Forty-four (44) civil engineers working in selected construction firms in Nepal were involved in the study. The study adopted descriptive statistics analytical techniques to analyze the variables, using Statistical Program for Social Sciences (SPSS) and MS-Excel. The study indicated that the civil engineers working in the building sector in construction firms inNepal were generally satisfied with their job. On average the job satisfaction score of civil engineers working in the building sector in construction firms was 3.54. Mostly they were unsatisfied with the pay system and promotional opportunities. Among the demographic factors, it was found that the yearly income and total experience highly influence the level of job satisfaction. Finally, the management of consulting firms and construction firms as well as policy makers in the government sector should focus on improving pay, promotion opportunities and working conditions to raise the level of job satisfaction.
