Journal Title: Journal of Evolution of Medical and Dental Sciences - Year 2019, Vol 8, Issue 14
Abstract
BACKGROUND This is a clinic-based study conducted in the department of paediatric rheumatology at VIMS. We wanted to study the various types of JIA, their immunological characters and associated extra articular features, if any, in our paediatric rheumatology clinic at VIMS. METHODS A total of 30 patients with juvenile idiopathic arthritis were selected. They were divided into groups based on ILAR classification. Blood tests including complete blood counts, ESR, CRP, ANA (IIF Hep 2), HLA-B27 (PCR) were performed. Imaging consisted of MRI and Power Doppler USG. RESULTS Of the 30 cases, enthesitis related arthritis was commonest, followed by polyarticular variety. Males outnumbered females. CONCLUSIONS Juvenile idiopathic arthritis is the commonest cause of chronic arthritis in children. Contrary to other studies, enthesitis related arthritis was the most frequent in our cohort.
