KEY CRIMINAL LEGAL MEASURES TO PREVENT SUICIDE AMONG CONVICTS IN CORRECTIONAL FACILITIES

Abstract
The article deals with the main criminal-law measures for the prevention of suicide among convicts in correctional colonies. The features of preventing suicide among convicts in correctional colonies are highlighted. It is proved that one of the main elements of criminal-legal measures for the prevention of suicide among convicts in correctional colonies is an independent institute of criminal-executive law, such as a mode of execution and serving a sentence in the form of imprisonment. The key elements of the system of regime measures for the prevention of suicide among convicts are determined, their classification is given. Thus, one of the components of special-criminological prevention is the prognostic diagnosis of suicide, which refers to the activities of the staff of the correctional colony, aimed at collecting, summarizing and analyzing information about the susceptibility of convicts to various types of suicidal behavior, identifying among them the categories most suicidal. It was emphasized that during the conduct of measures to identify potential suicides in correctional colonies, the staff of the institutions should focus on persons who are receiving data indicating their dangerous situation in the micro-social environment of convicted persons in terms of social adaptation, that is, about such circumstances that may lead to a conflict situation, an aggressive manifestation or suicide. It was found out that the correction of aggressive manifestations, which consists in the identification of convicts inclined to aggression, is an important direction in the work of the correctional colony’s staff aimed at preventing suicide among convicts. Determining the kind of aggression allows the staff of the institution to correctly select the most effective psycho-corrective measures, forms and methods of work with the specific convicts. It is concluded that the success of the implementation of measures to prevent the conviction of suicide depends on the degree of coherence of the actions of the employees of all services and units of correctional colonies.
