Kisspeptin (kiss 1) network signaling of hypothalamic gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) neurons
Journal Title: Journal of Animal and Feed Sciences - Year 2012, Vol 21, Issue 3
Abstract
To regulate reproduction in mammals, internal and external status is communicated to the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis via a coordinated balance of stimulatory and inhibitory neurochemical systems. This review describes the neuroanatomical organization of the kisspeptin system in the hypothalamus, and summarizes its role in signaling hypothalamic GnRH neurons, namely: multimodal actions of kisspeptin in the control of GnRH secretion during different physiological states of animals; involvement of kisspeptin in relaying metabolic information to hypothalamic GnRH neurons; neurobiological mechanisms underlying kisspeptin activation of GnRH neurons during puberty onset; effect of gonadal steroids in the early postnatal period in rodents on kisspeptin expression in the hypothalamus and gonadotropin secretion in adults; effect of photoperiod and metabolic cues on the activation/inhibition of hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis in seasonally breeding species by kisspeptin.

Effects of encapsulated and non-encapsulated compound acidifiers on gastrointestinal pH and intestinal morphology and function in weaning piglets
The experiment was conducted to study the effects of the addition of encapsulated and nonencapsulated compound acidifiers in a diet based on maize-soyabean meal-extruded soyabean on gastrointestinal pH, growth performanc...
The effect of using soyabean or linseed oil with RRR-d-α-tocopherol or dl-α-tocopherol acetate on haematological parameters and rearing performance of young turkey hens
The aim of the study was to analyse whether and to what degree the use of RRR-d-α-tocopherol in diets containing an oil rich in linoleic or linolenic acid (soyabean or linseed oil, respectively) would make it possible to...
Efficacy of different levels of Escherichia coli phytase in hens fed maize-soyabean meal based diets with a decreased non-phytate phosphorus content
The aim of this experiment was to determine the efficacy of different inclusion levels of new type phytase (ECP) synthesized by Escherichia coli and expressed in Pichia pastoris yeast (Optiphos) in maize-soyabean meal ba...
Estimation of substrate-energetic fluxes in lactating cows
In this article an algorithm estimating the basic metabolic fluxes in lactating cows is described that uses data of substrates absorption, heat production, respiratory quotient and milk productivity. The flux diagram per...
Responses of mammary amino acid metabolism and aminopeptidase N gene expression to duodenal soyabean small peptides and infusion of free amino acids in lactating goats
The duodenal perfusion technique was used to determine whether small peptides were more effective than free amino acids (FAA) for milk protein synthesis and to investigate the effects of infusing soyabean small peptides...
