Klinefelter’s Syndrome Presenting with Recurrent Ischemic Strokes- A Case Report
Journal Title: Journal of Medical Sciences - Year 2017, Vol 20, Issue 2
Abstract
Introduction: Klinefelter’s syndrome (KS) is one of the most common chromosomal disorders associated with testicular dysfunction and male infertility with an incidence of 1:500 to 1:1000 in newborn male infants and prevalence of 0.2%.1-3 KS is the set of symptoms that result from the presence of two or more X chromosomes.3-4 KS is often associated with abdominal obesity, metabolic syndrome, type 2 diabetes mellitus and auto-immune diseases.1-3 Thrombotic risk in KS is comparable to that of inherited thrombophilias and estimated prevalence of thrombotic events like VTE and PE is similar in both.5-9 Case Report: We report a case of a 40-year-old male who presented to us with dysglycemia for control of blood glucose. He had history of recurrent ischemic strokes in past, primary infertility and hypertension. We diagnosed him with Klinefelter’s syndrome and attributed his presentation to metabolic syndrome and the hypercoagulable state associated with this syndrome. We managed this patient with aspirin, statins, insulin and testosterone.
