Journal Title: Revista Eugenio Espejo - Year 2023, Vol 17, Issue 3

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the level of knowledge and practices regarding care under conditions of home isolation in patients from five Ecuadorian provinces who had a diagnosis of COVID-19 during the period August 2021 - August 2022. This research was quantitative, with a non-experimental design and descriptive scope, in which 4668 patients participated. The results showed that 87.3% of the participants had adequate knowledge about prevention and care in the face of the COVID-19 epidemic, with the values obtained in the Francisco de Orellana province being the most favorable (98.9% of individuals had adequate knowledge). The category was always predominant in terms of the timely change of the mask (39%) and the classification of waste produced by care (35%), while in the range, it almost always did: the use of a mask (48%), hand washing (41%) and the delimitation of shared spaces (52%). In the research context, a greater frequency of families comprised of between 1 and 4 members and those with homes with 3 to 4 bedrooms was observed. The following characteristics predominated in the partici-pants: age group between 20 and 39 years, female sex, secondary school level, and residence in the Imba-bura Province.
