Abstract

The aim of the present study is to assess knowledge, attitude and practices of physiology teaching among medical practitioners of northern India. The present study was carried out in Northern India with 264 medical practitioners included in the study. A questionnaire was designed, prevalidated by Faculty members & administered to the Medical Practitioners of Northern India. The Medical Practitioners were briefed about the questionnaire & asked to respond freely and fearlessly. They were informed that the information given by them is for the research and evaluation purpose only and will be confidential. The most likely method of teaching was small group discussion. Regarding the teaching aids 78% felt that chalk and board is most helpful for understanding the topic followed by overhead projector (14%) and Powerpoint presentations (8 %). About various teaching learning methodologies in Physiology, 46% Practitioners said quiz programmes are most enjoyable way of learning followed by tutorials (42%) where student’s seminar (12%) was least likely method of learning. Medical Practitioners were asked to give opinion about the qualities of a teacher which influence them. The most influencing quality of a teacher was a teacher who had art of teaching (46%) and ‘good knowledge’ (36%).
