KNOWLEDGE BASED ENGINEERING – AN APPROACH VIA AUTOMATED DESIGN OF STORAGE/RETRIEVAL SYSTEM
Journal Title: Proceedings in Manufacturing Systems - Year 2011, Vol 6, Issue 4
Abstract
Expanding markets and flexible commercial structures (e-commerce) generate various logistic demands and force manufacturers to offer diverse material handling equipment. To fulfill this demands specially the design process must be straight forwarded to minimize developing time, as most of the whole costs to produce a new product are settled here. Automated storage/retrieval systems (AS/RS) are backbones of many distribution centers and widespread. As they have lots of common attributes and nearly equal characteristics, they are predestinated for knowledge based techniques. The paper now describes knowledge based engineering in general and its additional value and focuses on a practical design of an AS/RS. The main describing equations are derived and the realization in ProEngineer is presented.

KNOWLEDGE BASED ENGINEERING AND MODERN CAE FOR SORTING SYSTEMS
Focusing on modern engineering technologies – as known from automotive sector – the authors will present two promising approaches to straighten (CAD)-development tasks for sorting systems. As sorting systems are highly c...
HYDRAULIC BALANCING OF CROSSRAILS AND RAMS OF HEAVY DUTY MACHINE TOOLS
This paper introduces some of the findings of the research made by the authors on the occasion of the manufacturing of a gantry type milling machine with displaceable table FLP 2200 CNC type. The designed balancing unit...
Review of the present technological advance in the field of water jet cutting
Water jet cutting (WJC) is a relative recent technology that has a high interest due to its results. The main advantage in using this flexible non-conventional technology is that there is no heat-affected zone (HAZ). Ano...
Simulation models for material handling equipment design – evaluation criteria, methods and application
Decisive criteria for the efficient use of CAE are available and well proven but are focusing on engineering in general. These decisive criteria are hardly being transferred to Intralogistics. A CAE application method ou...
Surface roughness monitoring in cutting force control system
The aim of this contribution is to present a reliable cutting force control system in end milling with the main focus on the integrated surface roughness prediction model. In this control system, cutting force sensor is...
