Knowledge of nursing academics on cardiopulmonary reinimation: An integrative review
Journal Title: Revista Uningá - Year 2021, Vol 58, Issue 1
Abstract
Cardiopulmonary resuscitation is an event in which the trained rescuer intervenes after a cardiopulmonary arrest making use of theoretical and practical knowledge along with adequate maneuvers to save the greatest number of lives. Given this context, it is essential the knowledge of nursing undergraduates about CPR so that they can develop a quality work in professional life. The present study seeks to identify, through literature, national and international scientific evidence regarding the knowledge of nursing students about cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Refers to a bibliographic review in the databases of the Virtual Health Library (VHL) and National Library of Medicine (PubMed). The following descriptors were used: Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, Nursing Students and Cardiac Arrest published in period from 2014 to 2019. The criteria for inclusion and exclusion of articles were based on the subject addressed. 4 articles were chosen, most of them with multiple authors and belonging to the descriptive study category. The results showed that nursing students have theoretical knowledge about CPR maneuvers and guidelines, but do not have mastery of the practice to perform it. There is a need for improvement in the curricula of undergraduate nursing courses, so that students have a deeper knowledge about CPR practices and know the importance of its applicability during their professional assistance.
