Artykuł stanowi głos w dyskusji, jaka rozgorzała na wieść o przyznaniu Unii Europejskiej Pokojowej Nagrody Nobla za rok 2012. Na kanwie argumentów przeciwników, jak i zwolenników tej decyzji przedstawiony został dotychczasowy dorobek Unii Europejskiej na rzecz demokracji i ochrony praw człowieka na świecie.
