Journal Title: Przegląd Historyczno-Oświatowy - Year 2015, Vol 0, Issue 3
Abstract
The article is devoted to the courses organized in Brody during the years 1929–1934 by the teachers’ union. Several regular courses took place: four or five month socio-agricultural courses, two week summer cooperative courses and one month summer courses for elementary school teachers. It also presents the program of the courses and principles of their organization. This form of training played an important part in popularizing social, agricultural, cultural, educational as well as cooperative knowledge among elementary school teachers in interwar Poland. Thanks to the knowledge and skills gained during the courses in Brody, as well as the attitudes shaped there, elementary school teachers supported the emancipation processes of citizens in the rural areas and helped to develop the attitudes of organization among children, youth and adults. By undertaking educational and cultural initiatives, they awakened the needs of self-education. They also spread new agricultural knowledge, which helped the people living in the country gain organizational and professional knowledge and skills. The training centre in Brody prepared teachers for socio-educational activities in the Polish countryside. Their educational activities took place during the second decade of the interwar period.
