Abstract

The purpose of the article is to reflect on the geographical teaching developed in daily school practice and the didactic application of the fundamentals of qualitative research. The pedagogical problem is the validity of the transmission of programmatic contents in school geography, while the didactic research that proposes to examine the objects of study is promoted, from the analytical and interpretative perspective of its protagonists. That determined carrying out a bibliographical review on the qualitative approach and geography in the school, the contribution of the qualitative approach in innovation in school geography and the promotion of school geography from the qualitative episteme. It concludes by highlighting the formative meaning of qualitative research to teach geography, by facilitating the collection, processing and transformation of data into knowledge, with formative effects on educated, responsible citizens and committed to social change, by promoting analytical, critical and constructive subjectivity.
