LAUREL SEEDLING GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT DEPENDENCE ON SEEDING TIME IN WEST GEORGIA CONDITIONS

Abstract
Laurel is a widespread subtropical culture, the leaves of which are unchangeable product for various branches of agriculture. Laurel plantations are basically built by seedlings, but according to the literal data, it is also possible to sow seeds on a permanent plot territory. Our experiment showed, that Imereti Region(Georgia) has perfect conditions of laurel cultivation by sowing seeds on permanent plot area. The best sowing time is October, November and December. In case of later seeding, the germination capacity of the seeds decreases. If, for example, the results of seed germination in October was 93.1%, in April it was 40.8%. Different seeding time for the growth and development of seedlings, affects not only the sowing year, but the following years too. The saplings cultivated in October, November, December grow rather fast and young shoots are less damaged by direct sun exposure.
