LAWYER’S BREAD: INCOME OF LAWYERS IN THE HETMANATE

Abstract
The article is the first attempt to investigate specific features of the lawyer’s salary in the Hetmanate. The problems are researched on the base of the unknown sources which were founded by the author in the Ukrainian archival collections. The strategies of lawyers and clients, the influence of the expenses of legal proceedings on the quantity of salary, the types of the lawyer’s salary, the conflicts between lawyers and clients in the field of the salary are analуsed. Simultaneously the lawyer’s income was compared with the income of another officials of the Hetmanate. The practices of the rewards for lawyers that took place in the Hetmanate shows that the Ukrainian’s judicial system had been developed for the European model. The lawyers and clients signed the contract which determined the rights and obligations for the both of them. The salary of the lawyers was very high and reflected their significance in the Hetmanate.
