Abstract

Abstract:ThisresearchwascarriedouttoexaminetheleadershipstylesusedbytheDistrictandMunicipal Assemblies(MMDA‟s)intheUpperEastRegionofGhanatoimplementtheirprogrammesand projectstothebenefitofthepeople.TheBuilsaDistrictAssemblywasusedasacasestudy. Theobjectivesofthestudy weretofindouttheextenttowhichtherespondentsunderstoodthe meaningof leadership,thetypesof leadershipstylesexhibited,andthe relationshipthatexists betweenemployeesandmanagement. Structuredquestionnaire wasthemaintoolused for collectingdata.QuestionnairesforstaffandleadersoftheAssemblywererandomlydistributed tosolicittheirviews.The StatisticalPackage forthe Social Sciences(SPSS)version16.0was methodusedtoanalysethedatacollected.One majorfindingwasthatleadershipstylesadopted bytheMMDA‟shavebeengenerallyviewedasuncompromisinganditistherefore,significant thatleadersadoptmuchmore tolerablestylesofleadingtheirsubordinateswhichwould encouragebetterunderstandingofleadershipstyles by theirworkers.Anumberof recommendationshave beenmade basedonmajor findingsofthe study.These include;the need for improvedfreeflow of communication,transparency andthe needforleaderstobepromptin handling issues and challenges.
